ROMEO & JULIET
“[The workshop was] well directed to the questions shared in advance of the workshop. Good balance of warm-up/individual activities and paired acting out. Session was thoroughly enjoyed and went fast.”
-Head of Sixth Form – St Dominics School
“[The students] thoroughly enjoyed working with actors and doing a workshop. It lifted Shakespeare off the page and the students felt that it gave them the opportunity to experience what it was like in Shakespeare’s time. The etiquette of Shakespearean England has given their essays a new depth in their controlled assessments”
-Mrs Morrison, English teacher – Purbrook Park School
“It makes so much more sense now. I feel ready for my controlled assessment”
“I now know what to write in my essay!”
“It was a fantastic experience and I really enjoyed it”
“I included the bit about the etiquette in my essay about strong emotions. It made sense to me why Shakespeare made such BIG plays and BIG storylines”
-Students of Purbrook Park School
“[The students enjoyed] meeting the cast – the energy and vitality of both facilitators, re-enacting Shakespeare theatre. Everything really – they loved it all. It was perfect – exactly what we needed.”
- Maeve Connelly – Thornhill College
MACBETH
You've all just left our school after an excellent workshop from the cast.
Our pupils enjoyed it thoroughly and were completely engaged at all times.
Congratulations to all at Icarus for staging a memorable and exciting
production of Macbeth. It's easily the best one I've seen. The high
quality of acting was well complemented by the innovative set. Well done to
all concerned.
- Greta, St Cecilia's College
OTHELLO
Acquaintances and I have studied your work in the past especially your
adaptation of Othello and we were impressed by how you used a small cast to portray such a vast concept to an audience. Your work has inspired us throughout our A Level studies especially Othello by the use of such a minimal set and your characterization. This has given us the idea to set up our own Theatre company and we would be honoured if you could reply and give us some tips (especially how to register).
- Hayley Dodkins, Rebecca Horgan and Victoria Kurn
HAMLET
Very successful; [the workshop leaders were] enthusiastic and we are all thinking about the characters’ objectives now in each scene. The students were taken out of their comfort zone and some have suggested we borrow the drama studio more often so that we can act out the scenes properly. Thank You!
- Evelyn Roberts (English Teacher), Norwich City College
The interactive roleplay involving students was an excellent way of exploring the Director’s vision…A very successful workshop [that created] a positive atmosphere.
- S. Allen (English Teacher), Holy Family Secondary School, Co.Kildare
The focus on language certainly met my expectations… and [the students] felt the work on language was very useful.
- Lindsay Gumbrell, (Assistant Headteacher / Director of Training), King Edward VI School, Bury St Edmunds
The students were engaged from beginning to end...fantastic!
- Ben Read (Drama and English Teacher), George Farmer College, Lincolnshire
